Dale Alan COLLINS was born on 5 September 1965 in Tazewell, Claiborne Co., TN.1294 He died on 3 September 2008 in Conway, Horry Co., SC. CONWAY | Dr. Dale Alan Collins of Conway passed away in his sleep Wednesday, September 3, 2008.

Dale was born September 5, 1965 in Tazewell, Tennessee, and grew up in Corryton, Tenn. He attended Corryton Elementary School and graduated from Gibbs High School with highest honors in 1983. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1986 with highest honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Portuguese. He received his master's degree in Spanish and Portuguese from the University of Tennessee, also with highest honors. He attended Indiana University, graduating in 1993 with a doctorate in Spanish and Portuguese. In 1993 he took a position at Coastal Carolina University in Conway and remained there as a Spanish professor. He loved South Carolina, but missed his home and family in east Tennessee.
Dale was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roger T. and Georgie Shoffner Smith of Claiborne County and Corryton, Tenn., and Lester Vaughn and Livy Housewright Collins of Luttrell, Tenn.
Dale leaves his parents, Norman Lee and Sonja Jo Smith Collins of Corryton, Tenn; his brothers, Roger Stuart and wife, Joyce Lynne Jeffcoat Collins, of Knoxville, Tenn., and Joel Lee and Sherrie Lynne Robbins Collins of Corryton, Tenn. and their children, whom he loved so dearly, Katherine Emily Collins, Erin Elizabeth Collins, and Eric Lee Collins. He also leaves his girlfriend, Karla Eugenia Reyna Manzano of Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico, and her daughters, Karlita and Pam; uncles and aunts, Jerry and Mayme Owens of Bean Station, Tenn., Minnie Weaver of Corryton, Tenn., Sam and Judy Collins of Ind., and Tressie and Bill Smith of Ind.; and many cousins.
He belonged to the Lutheran Church of Conway, but attended occasionally Society of Friends and St. James Catholic Church in Conway. Dale always tried to help those less fortunate, and often would try to take care of the homeless any way he could. He was so gentle and kind that people often took advantage of him, but he never seemed to mind. In his willingness to help others he often gave his money away and did without himself. His favorite pastime was to travel and make friends wherever he went.
The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Coffey Funeral Home in New Tazewell, Tenn. The funeral service followed at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Keith Weaver and the Rev. Stephen Doyal officiating. Eulogy was given by Emily Collins. Dale will be buried in the Shoffner Cemetery in Harrogate, Tenn. 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008. Pallbearers will be Howard Dew, Kenny Weaver, Jeff Owens, Tom Collins, Joshua Collins, Eddie Collins, Joshua Lamb, Eric Longmire and Jimmy Ray Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be the Coastal Carolina University faculty and staff.
