Jackson CARR Sr.78 was born on 26 February 1826 in Claiborne Co., TN.286,288 Between 1860 and 1862 he was a Clerk of the Circuit Court in Union Co., TN.189 He signed a will on 20 December 1898 in Union Co., TN. I, Richard J. Carr of Union Co., TN do make and declare my will to be as follows to wit:
1st: I want all my just debts to be paid.
2nd: I wall al the debts due me collected as soon after my death as possible.
3rd: I will and bequeath to my beloved wife DICEY CARR for and during the time of her natural life or widowhood the following boundary of land, being a part of the home farm where we live, beginning at a stake not yet set up on the north edge of the valley road in front of my dwelling house where the garden and the little orchard joins and the plank and rail fence come together, thence westward, with the valley road, thence southward with the orchard fence and containing the same course to the creek, thence up and with the creek to the Chesney public road, thence north with said road to the grave yard field, thence with the fence on the west side of the grave yard to the corner of said fence and field, thence westward with the fence as it now stands to Rice Snoderly's line, thence with his line southward to his corner and then a direct line to the beginning.
4th: I will to my said wife one years provisions out of any provisions I may own at my death and I will to her all such livestock as is exempt by law as head of the family, also I give her one dining table, two bureaus and a book case, the one she claims, and a large chest and such bedding and other household goods and kitchen furniture as the law allows to head of families, also I will and bequeath to said wife fifty dollars but the same will be paid to hear yearly that is ten dollars per year without interest.
5th: I will and bequeath to my son A. W. Carr two hundred and twenty five dollars $225.00 and to my son A. C. Carr's, his three children, I will to said three children $225.00 that is to all three of them and not $225.00 each of the three, and to A. M. Carr, A. O. Carr, Sr, and or A. M. Carr, ( A. M Carr is my crippled son) I want my Exts to show him all the leniency they can and to J. W. Carr and M. T. Carr, and to each of them I will and bequeath $225.00 each, and that is I give to each of my children $225.00 and to A. C. Carr's three children $225.00 but some of my children will owe my estate and that must be settled before they receive any of the $225.00 as above willed severally.
6th: I give and will to M. E. Carr my gold watch that I have carried about 22 years.
7th: I owe Richard J. Carr, Jr., $8.00, I want my executors to pay this amount to him when he goes to housekeeping.
8th: I will and bequeath all the lands and real estate I own to my said heirs but the part I have bequeathed to my said wife Nicey will not of course fall to them during her life unless she again marries but the part willed to her and all my other lands that I own (or the same can be easily identified by my total papers, court records) I will to my said heirs equally to share and share alike, A. C. Carr's three children taking a child's part and if they can divide the same I desire that those of my said children who now live on my land may have their several shares when the wife if she can so arrange it and in the mean time until a division is made I do not want A. M. Carr to pay any rents for the land where he lives and if a division can not be agreeably had then I authorize my executor to sell off said lands either at public or private sale as they may think best to on such terms as they think best and divide the money among my heirs as above provided but while I am disposing of my real estate I want to say that while Niecey, my wife, holds the host of land willed to her for life or widowhood I do not want my heirs to dispose of their interest in that part and also I want her to have access to timbers and to have wood and necessary timbers and as there is none on the tract or parcel laid off to her I will and desire that my executors lay off and set apart a sufficiency of timber lands of my real estate for her own full use while she lives or remains my widow. I will and desire that my executors sell all of my personal property, livestock, and all other personal property not herein before disposed of and such terms as they my think best and divide the proceeds among my said heirs as above named. And I further desire that my two sons, J. Harvey and M. T,. Carr have a horse each or $65.00 each out of my estate now the above is my last will and testament in lew of all former wills by me at any time made.
And Lastly I appoint A. W. Carr, J. H. Carr, and J. W. Carr as executors to carry out this will in testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name. This the 20th day of December 1898.

Richard died on 12 February 1899 in Maynardville, Union Co., TN.288 He was buried in February 1899 in Carr Cemetery, Maynardville, Union Co., TN.288 Richard was educated at Clinton Academy; He clerked two years for John Whitson and became a partner with W.H. Whitson. He began reading medicine at Clinton under Dr. M. Tate and in 1852 began practice at Tazewell. In 1853, he moved to Loy's Cross Roads; he later moved to Maynardsville, where he practiced his profession. In 1860, he became Circuit Court Clerk, serving two years. He joined the Masonic Order in 1862 and filled every office of that fraternity. In 1879, he attached himself to the Baptist Church at Maynardsville, of which he was a prominent member and worthy member up until his death. He was married 3 times and the father of fifteen children (fourteen boys). After practicing medicine for 38 years he received in 1890 an honorary degree from the Medical Dept. of the Univ. of TN. He is interred in the Carr Cemetery in Maynardsville, TN. Information on most of the Carr family comes from "Our Union Count Heritage" Volume 2, printed in 1981. A copy of his will is on page 42. He is wealthy, is a Baptist, and a Mason, and in his lodge he has held all the offices. He is a Republican in favor of Prohibition. In 1852 he married Nancy A. Marshall, of Campbell County, who died in 1863, having been born in 1832. She was a Methodist, and left five sons. In 1864 he married Charlotte Huddleston, of this county, who died March 6, 1874, leaving two sons. She was born in 1838, and was a Missionary Baptist. In 1875 he married Niecey Hill, of this county, by Whom he has two sons. She is a Missionary Baptist.
