208. Samuel LAWRENCE339 was born about 1746 in Augusta Co., VA. He signed a will on 27 August 1795 in Mercer Co., KY.340 In his will Samuel directs his Executors to sell 200 acres of his land to pay his just debts; Then after giving each of his brothers and sisters 1 shilling, the remainder is to be used to educate and maintain his son Samuel Russell Lawrence. Samuel further states that the remainder of his property is to go to his son. He names David Lawrence, James Colvin and James Speed as Executors.
He died on 2 April 1796 at the age of 50 in Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD. Records of Washington County shows that Samuel, along with his brothers David, Solomon and John were exploring the Rolling Fork River as early as 1776. Samuel entered 1400 acres on the Rolling Fork and later another 963 acres. This can be verified by Jillson (Virginia Surveys and Grants 1774-1791). There are numerous land transactions involving Samuel that are recorded in Mercer, Nelson and Washington Counties.
Samuel Was in Mercer County in 1783 as Mercer County records show him serving on a jury in that year.
