409. Anna Maria Elizabeth KURTZ was born in 1724 in Hesse, Germany. Children were: | i. | Nicholas DORTER Sr. was born on 12 March 1745 in Laubach Stadt Oberhessen, Hessen, Germany. He signed a will on 26 June 1820 in Wythe Co., VA. Last will & testament of Nicholas Darter Sr.from will book #2 pg. 348 in Wythe Co. Court House.I, Nicholas Darter Sr., of Wythe Co., do make this last will & testament in the following manner: 1st to wit, After the payment of all my just debts out of my estate by my executor herein named. I give unto my wife Finwell Darter $100.00 in money and all my household and kitchen furniture except two beds, one Cupboard and the clock. 2nd, I give to my sons Nicholas and John one dollar each and no more. 3rd, I give unto my sons Henry and Michael and to my daughter Catherine Robinet, Barbara Repass, Elizabeth Henderson, Rosina Day, and the children of my personal estate to be equally divided among them and the children of my aforenamed daughter, Magdellina shall receive together but one equal share thereof. 4th, Whereas John Henderson who is intermarried to my aforenamed daughter Elizabeth has already received the sum of $76.00 it is my wish that the said sum be deducted out of his share and be equally divided equally among my named children, Nicholas, and John excepted. 5th, I also give to my wife Finwell, my negro woman named Rachel during her life and after the decease it is my will that the said Rachel shall remain three months with my executor hereafter mentioned and shall have the privilege during the said time to choose a master, provided the person chosen by the said Rachel shall be willing to allow for her what she may be valued to by two disinterested men chosen by my executor for that purpose and in case the said Rachel can not be disposed of in that way during the three months, it is my will that she shall be sold by my executor and the money therefrom divided equally amongst all my children (Nicholas and John excepted) and allowing to the children of my daughter Magalene (sic) Repass one full share. 6th, I constitute and appoint my friend Christopher Brown executor of this my Will and testament, hereby revoking all former wills and testaments heretofore by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of June, 1820 signed sealed and furnished as the last will and testament of Nicholas Darter, Sen., in the presence of Rich. Mathews, John Foster, John P. Matthews. Nicholas Darter (seal) He died on 8 April 1821 at the age of 76 in Wytheville, Wythe Co., VA. Nicholas was buried in April 1821 in St. John's Cemetery, Wythe Co., VA. Nicholas Darter was only 3 years old when he was brought to the new world by his parents. It seems he may have participated in the revolutionary war. On 8 Jan 1780 he sold his land and farm of 200 acres on long creek in Lincoln Co. N.C. to John Kimbro and moved to Wythe Co. While residing in Lincoln Co. N.C. he enlisted in 1779 about 2 months before Cornwallis besieged and took the town of Charleston. He served in Capt. Jacob Money's & Taylor's Companies, Col. Hambright's and Campbell's regiments. He was stationed at New River to guard lead mines. His length of service was 18 months. He moved to Wythe Co. and served 3 months and one week in Capt. Lewis's company, Col. Isaac Shelby's Va. Regiment, later serving two months in Lewis's company guarding the frontier.
