There is a David Clap mentioned in "The French Broad-Holston Country, A History of Knox Co., TN" by the East TN Historical Society, Knoxville, 1946. The aticle is on page 63 and says, "The county court, as a court of common pleas, had jurisdiction over ordinary lawsuits until about 1835... The following are exceptional and by no means typical, entries... "In April 1809, David Clap was fined $2.00 for what was called, in words of delightful redundancy, 'profane swearing'."
