Thomas RUTHERFORD40 was born in 1770 in Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., VA.40 He signed a will circa 1796 in Berkeley Co., VA.40 In his will he appointed his father, Thomas Rutherford, his brother, Van, and his tusty friend, Gen. William Darke, as his executors. His daughter, Sarah, then a minor, was also mentioned. The executors conveyed a tract of land at Harper's Ferry to President George Washington for a government arsenal. The conveyance, dated 20 Feb 1797, specified a consideration of $10,000.
He died on 18 July 1796 in Berkeley Co., WV.40 Will proven for name at place on date.40 Thomas and his wife Mary, conveyed a tract of land lying on the Shepherdtown-Martinsburg Road 22 Sep 1795.
