"He retained a tolerance and a belief in the younger generation and stated: "We cannot expect people who have had the wonderful developemnts of transportaion and communication as this generation has to be the same as people of a century ago." In his youth Jame made a western trip from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to Fort Laramie, Wyoming, with provisions for the soldiers. He often recalled the exciting experiences of trouble with the Indians and the memorable buffalo hunts. He admitted he was young and venturesome."
