Dorothy Buchanan, 85, of Hope, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at Miller's Merry Manor in Hope.
Born Aug. 22, 1921, in Decatur County , she was the daughter of E. Gordon and Elsie F. (Fezzell) Clapp. She married Lawrence E. Buchanan on Dec. 27, 1941, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 2000.
Survivors include two daughters, Paula Buchanan of Taylorsville and Susan (husband, Jerry) Bafford of Shelbyville; one sister, Ruth Ryle of Greensburg; three brothers, Paul (wife, June) Clapp and Glen (wife, Florence) Clapp, both of St. Paul, and Tom Clapp of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Jeffrey (wife, Barbara) Hatton of Greensburg, Michael (wife, Melissa) Hatton of Columbus, Brooke (husband, Bret) Kroger of Hope and Derek (wife, Mary) Hatton, who is currently in the Marine Corps; and eight great-grandchildren, Kelsey Hatton, Taylor Hatton, Emma Hatton, Allyson Hatton, Libby Hatton, Tanner Hatton, Clayton Kroger and Elizabeth Kroger.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Alma Powell; and an infant son.
Mrs. Buchanan had lived in Hope for seven years and previously had lived in St. Paul , Decatur County and Columbus .
She had been employed as a factory worker at Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg for 21 years, retiring in 1983.
Mrs. Buchanan graduated in 1939 from St. Paul High School .
She had attended Burney United Methodist Church in Burney and was a pianist there and at the Greensburg Bethel Apostolic Church for 30 years.
Mrs. Buchanan had been a member of the Clay Township Home Economics Club in Decatur County .
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin St. , in St. Paul . Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Michael Riggs officiating.
Burial will be in Van Pelt Cemetery in Shelby County .

Dorothy was buried on 6 September 2006 in Van Pelt Cemetery, Waldron, Shelby Co., IN. Retired from Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg, IN.

Married in Baptist Church in Waldron, IN by the Rev. D. P. Rowlette. Lawrence Edward BUCHANAN was born on 7 July 1916 in Decatur Co., IN. He died on 12 January 2000 in IN. Entered U. S. Army 31 Dec 1941 - Medical - 105th General Hospital. Trained at Fort Riley, Kansas; Fort Lewis, Washington; Australia. Overseas: May 1942, returned to US October, 1945. Served in S. Pacific Theater. Engagements: East Indies, Biak Island, Luzon. Awarded three ribbons, discharged at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, Oct 1945., Rank Corporal. Served 3 years 10 months. Retired from Cummins Diesel in Columbus, Indiana.

Paula BUCHANAN was born on 14 March 1948 in Greensburg, Decatur Co., IN. Paula joined the Ice Miller Firm, Indianapolis, IN, on June 28, 1994. She is a Legal Secretary in the Business Section. Paula is from Greensburg, Indiana. She received her B.S. and M.S. in Business Education at Indiana State University. Before joining the Firm, Paula was a teacher for 15 years. She is a member of Burney United Methodist Church and Eastern Star. Paula volunteers for the Lighthouse Mission and a nursing home, where she sings for the residents and helps them with activities. She enjoys walking, reading, baking, crafts and spending time with her nephews, niece and their children.
