He was also a farmer. He was a past member of the Indianapolis Aero Club, Decatur County Aero Club, a member of Adams Township Advisory Board, President of Star baptist Cemetery Association and served as deacon, Sunday School teacher, Trustee and Treasurer of Star baptist Church.
Ray served in the United States Air Force during World War II. He was a graduate of St. Paul High School, St. Paul, IN.
