2097. Troy CLAPP was born on 27 April 1931. He served in the military in 1951 in Korea. Joined the Army at 19 and was sent to Scofield Barracks, Hawaii for basic training. At first the twins were going to be separated but since the law says that twins must be assigned together they were reunited. They left for Korea in August. They fought on Bloody Ridge and were wounded on Heartbreak Ridge. Coy was a machine gunner in Company F., 9th Infantry Division at the time of his injury. Troy was a 60mm Mortar man with the same outfit. Coy still has a piece of Shrapnel in his back from that day and he was lucky not to have lost an arm from a 31 mm shell that tore through muscle and tendon but missed the bone. Troy was wounded the next day, from shrapnel and a face to face bayonet fight. Of the 178 men in their company, only about 14 or 15 were left after Heartbreak Ridge. The brothers were in combat for 280 days and came home to continue serving their country - first at Camp Atterbury, and later in the National Guard. Troy retired as a Command Sgt. major and Coy as a Chief Warrant Officer. Twin of Coy.
