He helped build the Clear Branch Church, Plainview School and several homes in Union and Knox Counties. He was also a farmer and grew all kinds of vegetables, fruits, tobacco and cotton. He had large apple and peach orchards. He would load the wagon with fruit and go to Knoxville to sell it.
