90. Finney RUTHERFORD23 was born about 1773 in VA.23 He died after 1859 in Lee Co., VA. Finney entered military service 10 Sep 1793 in Wythe Co., VA and served three months in the Indian War under Capt. James Newell. Finney stated under oath 19 Aug 1852, in Lee County, VA, that he was a brother of Julius Rutherford, deceased, a Revolutionary War soldier. He further deposed that Julius Rutherford returned from the Nolichucky country with a wife who was a Rhoda Rutherford before her marriage to Julius Rutherford. Finney also stated that his brother Julius lived on part of his father's farm for several years in Wythe Co., VA, before he moved to KY, and subsequently to Knox Co., TN, and to Anderson Co., TN. Finney was listed on the 1850 census of Lee Co., VA. Occupation, shoemaker. At the age of 83 he made application for bounty land 26 Jan 1856 declaring he was a Ranger under the command of Capt. James Newell in Tazewell Co., VA. His claim was rejected. John Rogers of Adair Co., KY testified on behalf of Finney 2 Jul 1859 stating that Finney Rutherford of Lee Co., VA had served with him in the war with the Indians known as "Waynes War".
