Josephine Curtis Smith Clapp June 05, 2009 Mrs. Josephine Curtis Smith Clapp, 88, of Burlington, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at Wake Medical Center in Cary. A native of Alamance County, Mrs. Clapp was the wife of the late Walter Stokes Smith and the late Charlie Voyght Clapp. She was the daughter of the late William Oscar Curtis and the late Margaret Griffin Curtis. Mrs. Clapp retired as a Quality Control Supervisor from Kayser Roth Hosiery Mills after over 40 years of service. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Alamance Regional Medical Center until two months ago. Mrs. Clapp is survived by her daughter, Marlyn Smith Smith and her husband, Randy, of Cary; her sons, Jack Curtis Smith and his wife, Connie, of Greensboro and Phillip Keevin Smith and his wife, Kathy, of High Point; her grandchildren, Heather Smith, Ashley Smith, Kristy Smith Mallard, Kari Smith, April Smith Ellis and Jeffrey Smith; her great-grandchildren, Nicole Smith, Jordan Smith, Austin Smith, Madison Mallard, Jake Ellis and Preston Smith; her great-great grandchild, Tyler Smith; and her brothers, Pat Curtis of Graham and Jimmy Curtis of Elon. In addition to her two husbands and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Walter Michael Smith; four sisters, LeRue Curtis, Nellie Curtis Newland, Evelyn Zachery Sterzbach, Lucy Love Barber and two brothers, Elmo Curtis and O.D. Curtis. The family will receive friends Monday, June 8, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Burlington, where she was a member, from 1:00 until 2:45 pm. Funeral services will follow in the church sanctuary at 3:00 pm. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Terry Peele and the Rev. Dr. Dale O. Steele. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park. The church is located at 400 S. Broad Street, Burlington, NC 27215. When not at the funeral home, the family will be at the residence. Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington is in charge of arrangements. She was buried on 8 June 2009 in Alamance Memorial Park, Burlington, Alamance Co., NC. |
