Clapp, 73, died Monday, Oct. 31, 2011, after a long illness.He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Shelah; a sister, Donna Huffman; sons, Chris Clapp and Robin Roberts; daughters, Kimberly Monteith, Roberta Cradick, Jeanette Hooper and Susan Bertoni; 11 grandchildren;and one great-grandchild. Mr. Clapp graduated from Shelbyville High School and attended the former Indiana Central College, now the University of Indianapolis. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, where he served with comedian Bill Cosby. While still in college, he joined Indianapolis Power & Light Co., then entered the life insurance business with Lincoln National Life Insurance Co. In 1971, he joined the Kaufman Financial Corp. and was president emeritus of the firm at the time of his death. Mr. Clapp achieved many honors during his career, earning his chartered life underwriter (C.L.U.) degree from the American College of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and was a longtime member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals as well as a member of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors and a former board member of the Indianapolis Chapter. He was a life and qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table and achieved numerous qualifications for its highest membership designation, The Top of the Table.He was a member of the Association of Advanced Life Underwriting and a longtime member of The Forum, where he was a past president and board member, one of only two members from Indiana to have served as president of The Forum. Mr. Clapp was honored by the Indianapolis Life Insurance Co. with its Master Life Underwriter award on more occasions than any other agent in the company's 106-year history and was among Indianapolis Life's most honored associates, together with his mentors, Nate Kaufman and Jack Peckinpaugh. In 2004, he was honored by the Indiana Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors with its highest award, The Jack Peckinpaugh Award,given to the Indiana life insurance salesperson who exhibits great sales abilities and involvement in community activities. An avid golfer, he was a member of the Country Club of Indianapolis. He also was a member of the Greenwood Masonic Lodge and of the Maximo Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg, Fl. A memorial service will be conducted privately by David's family.The family will receive guests during a celebration of life gathering at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Country Club of Indianapolis, 2801 Country Club Road in Indianapolis.Arrangements are entrusted to Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center in Speedway, 2950 N.
