10536. Chalmer Richard CLAPP was born on 22 October 1922 in Guilford Co., NC. He died on 24 June 2009 at the age of 86 in North Carolina State Veterans Home, Salisbury, NC. MCLEANSVILLE — Chalmer Richard Clapp, 86, formerly of Brighton Gardens Assisted Living of Greensboro and Henderson, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Salisbury.
A memorial service was held Saturday, June 27, at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Goode and Rev. Jim Allred officiating. Inurnment followed in the church cemetery.
A Guilford native, he was born October 22, 1922, the son of the late Archie Chalmer and Ruth Buchanan Clapp. He lived in McLeansville before relocating to Henderson, N.C., where he resided for 53 years. Mr. Clapp was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Henderson and a member of the United Methodist Men. While in Henderson he was a member of the American Legion, the Kiwanis Club and the Entertainers, a group that sang and danced at local nursing homes. He was employed by Odell Hardware Company as a sales rep for 40 years. Mr. Clapp served in the U.S. Army during World War II. While serving in the Army he played on the Army baseball team
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Doris Jean Clapp, in October of 1989.
Mr. Clapp is survived by two sons, Donald Richard Clapp and wife, Ellen, of Raleigh and Jerry Scott Clapp and wife, Betsy, of Greensboro; his brother, Curtis Clapp and wife, Peggy, of McLeansville; three grandchildren, Jonathan Clapp, Katie Clapp and Spenser Clapp, of Greensboro; two nephews, Glenn Clapp and wife, Gina, of Holly Springs, N.C., and Grant Clapp of McLeansville.
