4074. Rev. Hugh Barton "Bart" CLAPP⁹⁴⁴ was born on 18 August 1868 in Corryton, Knox Co., TN.⁹⁴⁴ He appeared in the census in 1870 in District 4, Knox Co., TN. Hugh CLAPP Son M S W 11 TN Fa: TN Mo: TN Bart died of tuberculosis on 11 January 1914 at the age of 45 in Kerrville, Kerr Co., TX.⁹⁴⁴ Educated at Walnut Grove Academy; Carson-Newman College, B.A., 1892; Richmond College, VA, 1892-1893; Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 1894-1895. Ordained Baptist Minister in 1892. In 1895 when his father was thrown from a horse and broke his hip, H.B. returned to his home for two years to look after family affairs. From 1892 to 1897 he was the Pastor of Little Flat Creek Baptist Church in Knox Co., TN.
H. B. Clapp was headmaster at Chilhowee Academy in Sevier County, 1898-1900. During the years of 1900-1907 he was pastor of the Baptist Church in Sevierville, in Clinton, and in Coal Creek. In 1907 his health failed rapidly and the diagnosis was tuberculosis, from which his sister, Julia had died in 1900. Promptly the H. B. Clapp family moved to Kerrville, TX. He died in 1914. Lillie remained in Kerrville; taught school; reared and educated the three children. May 15, 1951 was dedication day for the H. B. and Lillie Clapp Youth Activities Center and Playground of the Trinity Baptist Church of Kerrville, a memorial from a grateful son (Milton Brown Clapp) to his parents.
