James Alphonso Shepherd
James Alphonso Shepherd, aged 80 years, farmer of Route 4, Burlington, died at his residence, Wednesday evening at 6 o'clock, following seven years failing health and one month critical illness. Mr. Shepherd was a native of Gullford county, and the son of the late Joshua and Mrs. Anginett Clapp Shepherd. His first wife was Miss Nancy Anne Hackett. Later he married Mrs. Margert Whitt Shepherd, who survives him. Other survivors are: Daughters, Mrs. L. C. May, of Route 4, Burlington, and Mrs. J. C. May, of Orlando, Fla.; sons, George J. Shepherd, of Route 4, Burlington, and James M. Shepherd, of Route 1, Burlington; a brother, T. A. Shepherd, Route 1. Gibsonville; a sister, Mrs. Arlendo Coble, R. P. D., Julian; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Brick Reformed church, of which the deceased was a member, by the Rev. Charles E. Hiatt, pastor of the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. James was buried on 26 January 1934 in Brick Church Cemetery, Guilford Co., NC.
