DOUBLE FUNERAL FOR THE CLAPP BROTHERS
Brothers Were Killed In Auto Accident At Asheboro Friday Night
Double funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the
late residence of Joseph Clapp age 34 and William Allred Clapp, aged
36, brothers, who were instantly killed late Saturday night while
standing by the roadside near Asheboro, waiting for help from Asheboro
to fix their automobile, from which the wheel had come off. They were
struck by a car driven by Sampson Newman, of near Level Cross, as they
were enroute to the peach orchards.
Rev. D. Virgil Pike, pastor of Graham Friends church was in charge of
the service, assisted by Rev. R. P. Ellington, and both bodies were
buried on the same plot in Linwood cemetery.
Joe Clapp was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the grave
service was in charge of the Lodge under direction of C. F. Koonce, and
25 members were in attendance in a body. The pall bearers were from the
Lodge: D. P. Coble, C. M. Fogleman, D. P. Gates, Robert Clapp, J. L. and
John Wilson, Thomas Foushee and Edward Roach.
Pall-bearers for W. A. Clapp were Erwin and Hoyle Clapp, Cleodore and
Kestle Phillips, George Lineberry, and Garland Allred.
Flowers were carried by Swannie Sisk and Mrs. Clapp, and Misses
Dorothy.Mann, Myrtle Phillips, Rosetta Velna, Mozelle and Ola Clapp,
Marcella Phillips, Lucy and Bertha Allred, Minnie Overman, Annie June
Black, and Bertha Bailiff.
He was buried on 28 July 1930 in Linwood Cemetery, Graham, Alamance Co., NC.
