Roy Brooks SHEPHERD was born on 20 March 1899 in NC.⁵⁶⁷ In 1934 he was an a brick mason in Guilford Co., NC.¹⁸²⁴ He died in an airplane crash on 19 April 1934 at the age of 35 in Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC.^567,1824 BURLINGTON, N. C., FRIDAY, APRIL 20, 1934. FUNERAL SERVICES TOMORROW Funeral services for Roy Brooks Shepherd, 35, whose death occurred in St. Leo's hospital in Greensboro at 9:30 o'clock last night, from injuries received in the crash of an airplane near Gibsonville about 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon, will be conducted at Brick church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. Charles E. Hiatt, pastor of the church.

He is survived by his parents, Beecher and Mrs. Lizzie Coble Shepherd; one sister, Mrs. G. C. Holt, near Kimesville; three brothers, C. P. and Herbert, Whitsett Route 1; and L. B. Shepherd, Burlington Route 4.

The body was carried to the home of an aunt, Mrs. J. C. O'Briant near Brick church, this afternoon to await the funeral hour. He was a member of Brick Reformed church and was a brick mason by trade.

Mr. Shepherd was one of three occupants of a plane that went into a spin end crashed near the McLean private airport a mile west of Gibsonville. The other occupants were David McLean, pilot, critically injured, and Verne Doak, negro, who died from his injuries.

As far as known Mr. McLean has not been questioned concerning the cause of the accident. He was considered a capable pilot of his own aircraft. The opinion has been advanced, without verification, that an occupant of the front compartment may have "frozen", to the dual controlled biplane and made it impossible for Pilot McLean to regain control of it.

Spectators at a ball game at Elon College saw the plane go into a spin but dismissed It as a trick stunt, as may be observed often when flyers go aloft to practice. Roy was buried on 21 April 1934 in Brick Church Cemetery, Guilford Co., NC.⁵⁶⁷
