199. Catharine "Caty" CLAPP was born on 12 August 1780 in Orange Co., NC.⁴⁷ She was baptized on 12 October 1780 in Brick Church, Guilford Co., NC. Sponsors: Philip Foust and wife. She signed a will on 24 February 1837 in Alamance Co., NC.²⁰⁴ Caty died on 12 December 1857 at the age of 77 in Alamance Co., NC.⁴⁷ Elmo Clapp book.

Catharine "Caty" CLAPP and John HOBBS Jr. were married on 13 April 1798 in Orange Co., NC.²⁰⁵ There was an error in the Orange County Marriage bond, dated 13 Apr 1798 for John Hobbs and Catherine, as her surname was given as CLARK instead of CLAPP. A small German testament which had belonged to Catherine's father supplied the proof of this error. The search room supervisor at the NC State Archives agreed. They resided in Alamance Co., NC. John HOBBS Jr., son of John HOBBS and Mary (?), was born on 4 May 1772.⁴⁷ He died on 9 September 1846 at the age of 74 in NC.⁴⁷ John Hobbs inherited a share of John Clap's land which had been received by will and deed from his father. (Orange Co. Deed Book 3, pp. 444,445- Will Book A, p.203.) A marriage bond for John Hobbs and Catharine CLARK of Orange Co. is dated 13 April 1798. The error in her surname is identified by the Bible entry in the Hobbs Bible. See page 48 of Alamance Genealogist, Vol.4, #3, 1987.

776	iv.	Martin HOBBS was born on 14 April 1808 in NC. He died on 28 April 1837 at the age of 29 in NC. He was buried in April 1837 in Alamance Co., NC.²⁰⁴ Martin is buried on a plot of Hobbs land which is now located on the grounds of the Macintosh Water Plant of the City of Burlington, NC, but is owned by Grace A.
