Alva Earnest CLAPP and Margaret Leora "Maggie" CORTNER¹⁹⁶² were married on 24 January 1904 in Clark Co., IN.⁹⁸² Married by Trigg A. M. Thomas. Maggie and Alva lived in a large two-story white frame house trimmed in dark green. THe house was just across the road from the Presbyterian Church. On the same side as the church and just to its left was a store which Alva and Maggie operated for many years. It was the only store in New Market and was a typical country store which also served as the post office. The house was remodeled about 1980 and was at that time occupied by thier descendants. When I looked in the store window in 2004 it was clean inside and things were covered with dropcloths. Margaret Leora "Maggie" CORTNER, daughter of Alvin CORTNER and Eliza J. HUCKLEBERRY, was born on 15 May 1883 in Clark Co., IN.⁹⁸² She died in 1965 at the age of 82 in New Market, Clark Co., IN.⁹⁶⁵ She was buried in 1965 in Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Cemetery, New Market, Clark Co., IN.^965,983
