Mrs. Nola A. Payne, 81, a lifelong resident of Selmore and Ozark, died at 1 a.m. Sunday in the state sanitorium at Mt. Vernon after a lingering illness. A member of the First Baptist Church here, she is survived by a son, Oral, Route 1, Ozark; two foster daughters, Mrs. Eldorene Stewart, Bolivar, and Mrs. Bobbie Forgey, Route 2, Ozark; a brother, Emery J. Hanks, Route 1, Ozark; four foster grandchildren and nine step grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Harris Chapel in Ozark with the Rev. Allen Harrison and the Rev. Max Edmondson officiating. Burial was in Selmore Cemetery. She was buried on 8 May 1968 in Selmore Cemetery, Finley Twp., Christian Co., MO.

Funeral services for Elmer Lawrence "El" Payne, 70 who died May 16 at Haguewood Hospital in Ozark following an illness of several days, were held Thursday at the Chaffin Chapel. Officiating were Rev. Harold Hurst, assisted by Rev. Robert Lawson, and burial was in Selmore Cemetery under direction of Chaffin. A native of Christian County and a well-known farmer, Mr. Payne became a member of the Prospect Baptist Church in 1908, and at the time of his death was an active member of the Ozark Baptist Church. He moved to Ozark several years ago following his retirement from the farm. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nola Altha Hanks Payne; one son, Oral Payne of Oklahoma City; foster daughters, Mrs. Frank Henry Stewart of Bolivar and Mrs. Verlon Forgey of Springfield; a brother, Ralph Payne of Route 1, Ozark; two sisters, Mrs.. Waldo Lawing and Mrs. Tom Deffenderfer, both of route 1, Ozark' and six grandchildren. A son, Oren Leo, died in infancy.
He was buried on 17 May 1956 in Selmore Cemetery, Finley Twp., Christian Co., MO.
