Growing in influence and usefulness." John died on 10 February 1899 at the age of 74 in Guilford Co., NC.^26,1091,1093 Birth and death date from stone. The cutting on the stone is wrong and should be 1824 instead of 1826. He was buried in February 1899 in Brick Church Cemetery, Guilford Co., NC.²⁶ he was a gallant and famous Colonel of the militia in the days preceding the War between the states.
