William Hillary HUFFMAN was born on 8 December 1808 in Guilford Co., NC.432 He was confirmed on 30 December 1844 in Frieden's Church, Guilford Co., NC. He died on 18 August 1866 at the age of 57 in Vienna, Johnson Co., IL.432 Buried in Oliver's Cemetery about 2 miles west of Vienna, IL. William Hillary HUFFMAN and Salona "Saloma" CLAPP433 were married on 18 January 1832 in Guilford Co., NC.432,434 Larry Noah has 18 Jan 1832 for marriage date and Shofner book, page 33 has 30 Dec 1831. Hillary, his wife and four children in 1853 followed the Western impulse then invading North Carolina and moved to Carroll County, TN. At the time of his departure he was operating his mill which was later known as the Dan Foust Mill and at the present is occupied by the Camp Fire Girls Lodge. Hillary had bought this mill and farm from his Great Uncle William Denton, who died there. This mill is located on the Big Alamance Creek about two miles south of Federal highway # 70, twelve miles East of Greensboro, NC. Hillary and family on their arrival in TN, located near his father's house and mill. They remained there until the opening of the Civil War. he being a Union sympathizer, his person and property being threatened, sold his 86 acres and mill to his brother Oliver for $1400.00 and moved across the Ohio River at Paducah to Metropolis, IL. Salona "Saloma" CLAPP, daughter of John CLAPP and Katherine FOUST, was born on 14 January 1814 in NC.432 She was confirmed on 31 October 1829 in Guilford Co., NC. Confirmed in Brick Church by Rev. John G. Crawford. She died on 2 December 1895 at the age of 81 in Vienna, Johnson Co., IL.432 Buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery near Simpson, IL. Baptized 5 Mar 1814 by Rev. John G.
