Raymond Lester CLAPP and Oratrix Velma ATER were married on 29 September 1928 in Covington, Fountain Co., IN.⁷¹⁴ They were accompanied to Covington by his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. James Clapp of Decatur. They⁷¹⁴ filed for divorce on 22 January 1932 in Piatt Co., IL.²⁴³⁸ Velma filed for the divorce. James took her back to her parents home in Nov 1930 and just left her there. He had no contact with her after that. She filed charging desertion and he had to pay the court costs. Her father and mother both testified at the hearing. They²⁴³⁸ were divorced on 4 April 1932 in Piatt Co., IL.⁷¹⁵ Decree Record 6, page 188. Oratrix Velma ATER⁷¹⁴, daughter of James P. ATER and Lydia (?), was born (date unknown). Velma was the youngest daughter of James Ater. She had attended the Monticello High School and worked at the Syrup of Pepsin factory in 1928.

Raymond Lester CLAPP and Lola BARNETT were married on 16 May 1935 in Worthington, Greene Co., IN.¹⁶⁵³ Lola BARNETT¹⁶⁵³, daughter of Charles BARNETT, was born (date unknown). She is a graduate of Illinois Normal College in Normal, IL. In 1935 she had been teaching in the Macon Co. Schools for 6 years and had a contract to teach the next year also.
