The bodies of five members of the Carl Mosser family were recovered15 January 1951 from an abandoned mine shaft at Joplin, MO. All had been bound and shot. Their slayer, ex convict William E. Cook, was captured about the same time at Sant Rosalia, Mexico, about 600 miles below the border. All five members had been shot before being dumped into the mine shaft not far from Cook's boyhood home in Joplin. Gary Carl and Pamela Sue were shot through the heart at close range. ROnal Dean had been shot four time. Thelma was shot int he right side of the chest and Carl had been shot in the temple. Cook had killed three more people before his capture. Carl's estate was estimated to be $15,000 at his death. Thelma BARCUS, daughter of Leslie C. BARCUS and Ada M. (?), was born on 31 July 1921 in Hammond, Piatt Co., IL.2362 She died of murder on 2 January 1951 at the age of 29 in Joplin, Jasper Co., MO.2362 She was buried on 18 January 1951 in Hammond Cemetery, Piatt Co., IL.2362 Carl MOSSER and Thelma BARCUS had the following children:
