Joseph G. PATTERSON Jr. was born on 28 September 1926. He died on 15 June 2013 at the age of 86. Mr. Joseph G. Patterson, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 15, 2013.
He was the husband of Ruth Allred Patterson for almost 69 years. He was born on September 28, 1926, son of Willie May Brooks Patterson and Joseph G. Patterson, Sr., both deceased. He retired from Western Electric/AT&T and Lucent Technologies in 1984. After his retirement, he worked as a driver for The Oaks and Twin Lakes nursing homes for several years.
Survivors include his wife of the home and two daughters, Ila May Patterson Bowman (Bruce) of Reidsville, NC and Sharon Patterson Cooper of Burlington, NC, and four grandchildren, Preston Bowman of Olathe, KS, Joseph Cooper of Burlington, NC and Todd Bowman of High Point, NC. He also had one grandaughter, Tracy Cooper, deceased. Mr. Patterson has three great-grandaughters, Brittany Bowman and Lauren Bowman, both of Olathe, KS and Kara Bowman of High Point, NC. He is also survived by a special daughter raised by Mr. Patterson, Ann Chauncy and husband Ed Compton.
Mr. Patterson had an endless love for his family. His statement up to the end of his beautiful life continued to be "I love my girls." His daughter asked him last week who was his special girl and it was emphatically Ruth Allred.
He had a long time friend in Al Stout, who has blessed this family in so many ways, and a special family friend, Julie McPherson. Mr. Patterson loved music so much. He played in bands most of his life, singing bass, lead, tenor and playing his guitars. He played in The Noteworthy Band entertaining in many nursing homes for years. In his earlier life he was an organist, choir director, member of the Galileans Trio, and a Sunday School Teacher.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at Beacon Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Barkman officiating. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 17 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington and at other times will be at the residence.
The family would like to express deepest appreciation and love to Patricia (Patti) Virgo for the compassionate care and deep understanding of his needs and the bond made with Mr. Patterson during this precious time. Indescribable!
