GREENSBORO - Mr. Tom Boone, 90, of Greensboro died Wednesday, June 3,
2009 at Friends Home West.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Friends
Homes West, 6100 W. Friendly Avenue at 2:00 pm with Rev. Paul Lowder
officiating.
A native of Burlington, NC, he was the son of the late Thomas and Addie
Ray Boone. After attending Elon College and UNC, he served as a Captain
in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war, he opened
Tom Boone Tailors & Formal Wear in downtown Greensboro. His store was a
favorite gathering place for customers and friends who enjoyed Tom's
quick wit and talent for story telling.
Tom served as president of Toastmasters and Gate City Kiwanis Club. He
was a member of the Thomas Wolfe Society, a lifelong ham radio operator
(W4COC) and also enjoyed golf, working out and studying literature.
Tom embraced life with passion, curiosity and great humor. His easy
smile and gentle spirit endeared him to all who knew him. He was a
loving father and brought great joy to his childrens' lives.
Tom was predeceased by his wife, Jane Murray Boone.
Survivors are his children, Pat Bennett and husband Charles of Atlanta,
GA, Linda Coble and husband Ron of Charlotte NC, Tom Boone and wife
Diane of Irving, TX, and Faye Pulley of Wilmington, NC; grandchildren,
William Coble, Brandi Ledermann, Wendy Bennett, Brook Bennett and great
grandson Harry Ledermann.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care
of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405
