53. Daniel HUNT37,38 was born on 17 October 1761 in Rowan Co., NC.39 He signed a will in 1830 in Jonesville, Surry Co., NC.38 Will mentions his three daughters, Elizabeth Gwyn, Judith Hunt, Jane Harris and three sons, Enoch B., Daniel, and Nathan D. Names as executors were his sons Enoch B., Daniel, and Nathan D. He died on 13 February 1837 in Jonesville, Surry Co., NC.39 Daniel Hunt was a Rev. War soldier in NC, enlisting as a private and promoted to Lt. under Captain John Johnson in Colonel Locke's NC Regiment. He applied for a Revolutionary War pension in 1832 in which he described his service and testified that after his father had been taken prisoner, and released, in 1781, he was excused from further service in order to return home and take care of his father. He apparently continued affiliation with the NC militia because later he was called Col. Hunt, as was his father. A Rowan Co., NC deed of 10 Aug 1812 shows Daniel Hunt selling to Nathan Douge, both of Rowan Co., three acres on the waters of Cedar Creek, which appears to be subject Daniel although he would have appeared to have moved to Surry Co., by then. Another deed of 11 Sep 1818 shows Daniel Hunt of Surry Co., NC selling to John Frost of Rowan Co., 12 1/2 acres on the bank of Cedar Creek next to WIllie Jones, the mill pond, and along the line of Enoch Hunt including the corner of the half of the mill of Enoch Hunt. Enoch Hunt was brother of Daniel Hunt and married Elizabeth Chaffin, sister of Daniel Hunt's first wife Judith Chaffin. After the Rev. War, Daniel Hunt is said to have moved to Jonesville, "then the largest town west of Raleigh, and the seat of that famous old school, the Jonesville Academy, long and ably presided over by Professor William Jones." it is said in a 14 June 1930 DAR Memorial Ceremony honoring the memory of Rev. soldier Daniel Hunt of Jonesville. According to the same document, Daniel was a merchant and large landowner in Jonesville and the Valley of the Yadkin, and had a place of business "opposite the old hotel which stands on the corner of the Main Street in Jonesville" and was a member of the NC House of Commons 1803-1805.
