23. John RUTHERFORD7 was born in 1689 in Essex Co., VA.6,7 He died in 1789 in Logan's Fort, Lincoln Co., KY.7 Logan's Fort is now Stanford, KY.
Logan's Fort was near what is now Stanford, Lincoln Co., KY. The book Genealogical History of the Rutherford Family, page 85. Entered 237 acres of land on the Willis River in Southam Parish, Cumberland Co.,VA, July 15, 1752. 1773 he was located in Fincastle Co.,VA, now Wythe Co.. Took Oath of Allegiance in Montgomery Co.,VA 1777.
He married a second time in KY on 9/7/1786 to a widow Mary Simpson. He asked that his age (97) be recorded with the marriage records.
John Rutherford entered 237 acres of land on the Willis River in Cumberland County, Virginia July 15, 1752. He sold it in a few months and signed the deed as John Rutherford, Sr. Col. James Wood referred to John Rutherford of Augusta County, Virginia as his brother-in-law and conveyed a tract of 300 acres of land in Augusta County, Virginia to him in 1754.

John RUTHERFORD and Violetta REYNOLDS were married about 1726 in Essex Co., VA.7 Violetta Reynolds and her husband John Rutherford, Jr. brought suit of petition in Essex Co., VA in February 1727, against the estate of her father, James Reynolds, deceased. They were attempting to secure her share of the estate which had been assigned to her in her father's will dated February 8, 1723.
Violetta REYNOLDS was born in 1700. She died before 7 September 1786.8

Benjamin RUTHERFORD9 was born (date unknown). Benjamin was listed as a tithable in 1771 in Botetourt CO., VA, with his father, John Rutherford Sr., and his brothers, John Rutherford, Jr., William Rutherford and Joseph Rutherford.
In 1774 Benjamin participated in Lord Dunsmore's War. He ranged from Upper Station from 26 Sep until 1 October. He served in a Company of Militia under Capt. Robert Doack and accompanied an expedition to Point Pleasant. Again he was with his brothers in Montgomery Co., VA, 13 Sep 1777, when the oath of allegiance was administered to Benjamin, Joseph, and John Rutherford, Jr..
Benjamin and his brother John were security for John Montgomery, administrator of the estate of Alexander Bruce 13 Mar 1770 in Augusta Co., VA.
A survey was made for Benjamin Rutherford of 273 acres of land on a branch of Cripple Creek in Fincastle Co., VA 16 Dec 1773. He received a grant of land on the waters of Muddy River in Logan Co., KY, 14 Sep 1796.
No family has been ascertained for Benjamin Rutherford. He may have had sons Benjamin Rutherford of Logan and Adair Counties, KY; James Rutherford of Logan Co., KY; and Stephen Rutherford of Logan Co., KY.

John RUTHERFORD and Mary SIMPSON were married on 7 September 1786 in Lincoln Co., KY. Mary was his 2nd wife. The clergyman recorded on the marriage record:
"Rutherford says he is ninety-seven years old and wants it recorded on the
record." Mary SIMPSON was born in 1770 in VA.10
