He died on 24 April 2008 at the age of 88 in Burlington, Alamance Co., NC. April 25, 2008 - 1:28PM BURLINGTON - Mr. Herbert E. "Hub" Clapp, 88, of 2218 Combs Street, Burlington, died at his residence on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 7:20 p.m. following a lengthy illness. A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Dottie Clapp, who survives, and the son of Luther Banks Clapp and Annie Ellen Euliss Clapp, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 63. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Kimesville and loved gospel music. Mr. Clapp was a member of Shamrock Golf Course for over 40 years and involved with the organization of the Parent-Child Golf Tournament and the "Clubs for Kids" program. He was a charter member of the Alamance Seniors Golf Association. He was a gifted poet. In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include four daughters, Pam Tyndall of Atlanta, Ga., Cindy Wilson and husband, Scotty, of Elon, Traci Neal and Maria Clapp, both of Burlington; a son, Mark Clapp and wife, Connie, of Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Tyndall Smith and husband, Adam, Steven Hurley, Christina Hurley, Kyle Neal, Beth Storey, Dylan Wilson and Seth Varner; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, L.B. Clapp and Howard Clapp; and three sisters, Maude Smith, Grace Shoffner and Mary Graves. The funeral will be conducted at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Kimesville on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. by the Rev. Lee Ellis and the Rev. Steve Joyce. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Funeral Home in Graham on Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m., and at other times they will be at the residence. Herbert Euliss "Hub" CLAPP and Dorothy "Dottie" HUNNICUTT were married circa 1954 in NC. Dorothy "Dottie" HUNNICUTT, daughter of Samuel M. HUNNICUTT and Luna Mae CHAMBERS, was born circa 1934 in Person Co., NC. She was living in 2008 in Burlington, Alamance Co., NC. 2218 Combs Street. Dorothy Hunnicutt Clapp, 77, of 1808 Malone Rd., Burlington, went to be with The Lord on Christmas Day, 2011, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. A native of Person County, she was the wife of the late Herbert Euliss Clapp and daughter of the late Samuel M. Hunnicutt and Luna Mae Chambers Hunnicutt. She was known and loved by all as “Dottie” from Dottie’s Starlite Grill, N. Church Street, formerly on Webb Ave. She was a devoted mother and wife with a caring and generous heart. She will always be remembered as “Our Christmas Angel!” Surviving are three daughters, Cindy Clapp Wilson of Elon, Traci Lynn Clapp Neal of Burlington and Dorothy Maria Clapp of Burlington; a son, Luther Mark Clapp of Burlington; step-daughter, Pamela Tyndall of Atlanta, GA; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Steven, Christina, Kyle, Beth, Dylan and Seth; three sisters, Lorene Blalock, Jeannie Ware and Shirley Harrison; and extended family members, Stephanie Hunnicutt and Tammy Varner. She was preceded in death by one sister and seven brothers. Services will be held at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, December 28, at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Graham with her nephew, Tim Hunnicutt officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Cameron Horner Benefit Fund through BB&T Bank.
