GREENSBORO - Mr. Thomas Harold Clapp, 59, went to Heaven to be with his Lord on January 24, 2012 at his home after a lengthy illness. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 30 at Pleasant Garden Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Barrett officiating. Burial will follow at Alamance Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Tom was born in Greensboro, NC on July 24, 1952 to John Boyd and the late Ruth Jobe Clapp. He graduated from Southeast Guilford High School in 1970 and is an alumnus of North Carolina State University. Mr. Clapp was an avid Wolfpack fan and a member of The Wolfpack Club. As a young man, Mr. Clapp won the prestigious Charles Kulp, Jr. Memorial Award for outstanding chapter president of the United States Jaycees. Mr. Clapp worked for several textile corporations including Kayser-Roth Corporation in Greensboro as Vice President of Planning and Distribution. He then started his own textile manufacturing company, Ashley Leigh Enterprises, Inc., which was named for his two daughters, Meredith Ashley and Allison Leigh. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 36 years, Barbara Yates Clapp; two daughters, Meredith Ashley Perlman and husband, Benjamin, of Atlanta, GA, and Allison Leigh Marth and husband David, of Pleasant Garden; granddaughter, Leah Elisabeth Marth; father, John Boyd Clapp of Greensboro; sisters, Betsy Clapp Peacock and Carolyn Clapp Whitley, both of Greensboro, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Yates of Whiteville. He is also survived by aunts and uncle, Mary Belle and Neal Tuttle, Trudy Peacock, and several cousins and nephews. The family would like to thank their many wonderful friends, especially Angela and William Reid for their kindness and support during Tom's illness. Also, many thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Sparks, Dr. Peter Jordan and his staff for their continued care along with Liberty Hospice of Burlington, especially Kelly Kirkpatrick, his nurse. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, at Forbis & Dick, Pleasant Garden Chapel.
