He appeared in the census in 1851 in UT.258 Benjamin had a household of 9 with $500 in real wealth in 1850 Utah Federal Census. He died on 31 October 1865 at the age of 51 in Liberty, Sonoma Co., CA.259 The following is quoted from a latter-Day Saint Biographical Encyclopedia, pages 195-196: "Benjamin was one of the First Seven Presidents of Seventies, from 1845 to 1859. He joined the Latter Day Saints at an early day and labored as a missionary in Kentucky in 1838. He gathered with the Saints to Missouri, where he passed through severe persecutions, and after participating in the Crooked River battle he, together with others, fled into the wilderness in order to escape their enemies. They traveled through the northern part of Missouri and the southern part of Iowa and finally reached Illinois in safety. At a political meeting held in Nauvoo Feb. 2, 1843, Elder Clapp delivered a speech, in which he said that Joseph and Hyrum Smith had attempted to take away the rights of the citizens at a late municipal election. Two days later he made a public confession to the effect that he was wrong in his accusation When Joseph the Prophet was arrested at Dixon, IL., in 1843, and an attempt was made to kidnap him to Missouri, Elder Clapp joined the expedition which rescued the Prophet. Soon after this he departed on a mission to Alabama, on which he had been called at the previous April conference. He was ordained and set apart as one of the presidents of the eight quorum of Seventy Oct 20, 1844, under the hands of Joseph Young and Levi W. Hancock, and set apart as one of the First Seven Presidents of the Seventies Dec 2, 1845, under the hands of Apostles Brigham Young, Heber C. Kimball, Orson Hyde, Parley P. Pratt, and George A. Smith. he came west in the general exodus of the saints from Nauvoo, ILL., and after residing for several years in Salt Lake City he removed his family to Ephraim, Sanpete County, CA, where he had some difficulty with Bishop Warren S. Snow. After investigation before the council of Seventies, he was dropped from his position in the council and finally excommunicated from the Church at the general conference held in Salt Lake City April 7, 1859. He died in California about the year 1860, with a settled conviction of the truth of the latter-day work." Benjamin Lynn CLAPP and Mary Rachel SHULTZ were married in 1832. Mary Rachel SHULTZ, daughter of Jacob SHULTZ and Nancy PHILLIPS, was born on 2 April 1815 in IN. She appeared in the census in 1860 in Gilroy Twp, Santa Clara Co., CA. Page 241, dwelling 156, family 134 Benjamin Lynn CLAPP and Mary Rachel SHULTZ had the following children:
Benjamin Lynn CLAPP and Elvira Corinda RANDALL were married on 13 January 1846 in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., IL.260 Elvira Corinda RANDALL was born on 26 February 1825 in St. Lawrence, Jefferson Co., NY. Benjamin Lynn CLAPP and Ann Bingham THOMAS were married on 26 January 1846 in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., IL.259 Ann Bingham THOMAS was born on 1 April 1813 in Marlboro District, SC. She died on 24 November 1887 at the age of 74 in Snowflake, Navajo Co., AZ. Third wife of Benjamin Clapp. Benjamin Lynn CLAPP and Ann Christine MORTENSEN were married on 12 October 1856 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake Co., UT.259 Ann Christine MORTENSEN, daughter of Diderich MORTENSEN and Maren JENSDATTER, was born on 14 November 1837 in Nederby, Fur, Viborg, Denmark. She died on 12 April 1898 at the age of 60 in Annabelle, Sevier Co., UT. Died at Annabella, Utah. Ann was the 4th wife of Benjamin Clapp. Ben and Ann had two children.
