230. John HUNTER Sr. was born in 1759 in Rowan Co., NC. He died on 24 March 1837 at the age of 78 in Jessamine Co., KY. JESSAMINE COUNTY KENTUCKY REV. WAR PENSIONS: HUNTER, JOHN, W. 432, Virginia. The above named soldier was living in the county of Jessamine, state of Kentucky, when he applied for pension in the city of Lexington, state of Kentucky, date of Dec. 7, 1833, aged 73 years. He stated that he was born in the county of Rowen, state of North Carolina, date of 1760 in August. He enlisted in Kentucky (then Virginia). He moved from North Carolina in 1779 to Boone’s Station, Kentucky, with his fathers family. He died Mar. 23, 1838 His widow, Ann Hunter, applied for pension in the county of Jessamine, state of Kentucky, date of July 1, 1839, aged 81 years. They were married in the state of Kentucky, county of Fayette, near Lexington, in September of October 1786 or 1787. The affidavit of a fellow soldier who served with him, by the name of Peter B/F Adams, was made at Lexington, Kentucky; he was the cousin of John Hunter and came to Kentucky at the same time as he did. Hugh Chrisman made affidavit in Jessamine County that he had known the Hunters since 1793. Names of children of John and Ann Hunter: The oldest child was named Charles Hunter and was about 50 years old in 1839. Moses Hunter was administrator of the estate. Rebecca (Hunter) Portwood, Mary (Hunter) Stafford or Strafford. John Hunter Jr. Also mentioned but no relationship stated - -Samuel R. Hunter. No other data given. This John Hunter married to Ann is the eldest son of Jacob Hunter, Sr. This small cemetery is on the original farm in Jessamine Co, KY that Jacob Hunter Sr. owned. Ann (?) was born in 1757. She died on 24 October 1844 at the age of 87 in Jessamine Co., KY. |
