William died on 2 February 1909 at the age of 91 in Guilford Co., NC. William was a tailor by trade. He moved to Scipio, IN. in 1838; to Fairfield, Iowa in 1842. He held public office, developed a farm, and traded in livestock. He was in the Union Army during the Civil War, 3rd Regiment, Iowa Cavalry. His son, Cyrus, was in the same unit. He moved to Kearney, NE. in 1885 where he operated a livery stable. He was baptized 24 May 1817 by Jacob Sherer, Lutheran minister.
