Eva Burke Clapp, 98, of 3407 Brookfield Drive, died Feb. 10, 2002, at the Wesley Long Community Hospital.
A cryptside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in Westminster Gardens.
A native of Alamance County, Mrs. Clapp began working as a volunteer for the American Red Cross as a young woman and continued that community service for over 40 years. She saw the good that the Red Cross provided in their blood drives and services to the community and felt very rewarded to be able to help.
Eva was hired by Mr. J. Spencer Love to come to work as his administrative secretary at Burlington Industries. her old employer at the law firm was very sad to see her go but realized how much she could help the young and ambitious textile company builder. Eva worked for Mr. Love during her remaining career in his offices in Greensboro, New York and often on temporary duty in Florida where he would go for vacation. For Eva it was a dream job. She was a precise and dedicated worker and she enjoyed working for a man who was building a world class company. She knew first hand how many jobs were being created in her county and state, and she was proud of the progress the company brought to the area.
Mrs. Clapp was also past president of the Alamance County Business and Professional Women's Club and a member of the First Reform United Church of Christ in Burlington.
Surviving are her brothers, M.G. Burke of Winston-Salem, John Burke of Burlington and Wallace Burke of Raleigh.
