Ben Thurston Clapp, 58, of Route 5, Julian, was dead on arrival at a
Greensboro hospital late yesterday morning after suffering a heart
attack and running his truck into a car.
The 1962 pickup truck which Mr. Clapp was driving veered suddenly to the
left of the street following his attack. The truck ran into a car being
driven by James B. Stewart of Greensboro, then swung back across the
street and ran into a handrail in the sidewalk, according to police reports.
The Guilford County coroner ruled that Mr. Clapp's death was due to a
heart attack. Damage to the cars involved in the accident was not heavy,
police reported.
A native of Guilford County, Mr. Clapp was the owner of Clapp
Contracting Company in Julian. He was a member of Julian Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mamie Bowman Clapp; two sons, Charles A.
Clapp of Julian and Lewis R. Clapp of Climax; two daughters, Mrs. Paul
Deaton of Liberty and Mrs. Aldeen Priddy of Route 2, Liberty; his
mother, Mrs. John A. Clapp of Route 3, Liberty; five brothers, Vance
Clapp, both of Route 3, Liberty, Carl Clapp of Route 1, Liberty. Willaim
Clapp of Whitsett and J. P. Clappof Greensboro; seven sisters, Mrs. Hoyt
Bowman, Mrs. Wade Sharpe and miss Ammie Clapp, all of Route 3, Liberty,
Mrs. Vincent Neece of Greesboro, Mrs. Roy Clapp of Whitsett, Mrs.
Marshall Paul and Mrs. Sam Story, both of Burlington; and 12 grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at
Gilmore Memorial Park in Julian. Rev. Fred Carlisle and Rev. Everett
Horn will officiate.

LIBERTY - Mamie Clapp Wall, 93, formerly of Liberty, died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Guilford Health Care.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Gilmore Memorial Park with the Rev. Lynn Cash officiating.
She was a native of Guilford County, the widow of Ben T. Clapp and Robert L. Wall, a member of Julian United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Blue Bell.
Surviving are son, Charles A. Clapp of Julian; daughter, Eula Mae Priddy of Liberty; stepchildren, Bobby Wall of Madison, Dwight Wall of Greensboro; sister, Mary Fields Wade of Climax; brother, Frank Bowman of Julian; half brother, Joe Harmon of Julian; 14 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren.

She was buried on 23 June 2002 in Gilmore Memorial Park, Randolph Co., NC.
