Kissee, 50, one of the region's best known stockmen, were held Sunday afternoon at the Ozark Baptist Church, with the Reverend Harold Hurst, Pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was in Selmore Cemetery under direction of Chaffin Funeral Home of Ozark. His death occurred Friday, November 4, at Burge Hospital, Springfield, where he had been a patient the past seven weeks. First symptoms of the fatal disease became apparent about two years ago, and he had been under extensive medical treatment since that time. A lifelong resident of Ozark, he was the son of the late Rich and Laura Kissee and a descendant of a pioneer Southern Missouri family. He received his education in the Ozark schools and on January 30, 1926, was united in marriage to Alta Hanks who survives him. To this union were born two sons, Donald and Tommy, who also survive him and a daughter, Marilyn Ruth who died in infancy. The son Donald is married to the former Nancy Kessinger. Besides the widow and the two sons, he is survived by three brothers, Ellis Kissee of route 2, Ozark, Willard Kissee of Reeds Spring, Mo. and Knial Kissee of Sparta, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Elza Sherrow of Ozark, Mrs. Clara White of Springfield, and Mrs. Pearl Raper of Fresno, Calif. A sister, Hilda, died in her early youth. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Ozark and was a member of the Fifty-Fifty Sunday School class. Mr. Kissee had a lifelong interest in livestock, particularly cattle, and from boyhood was associatd with his father, one of South Missouri and North Arkansas's most active and widely known cattle buyers. In 1920, he moved his activities to the Union Stock Yard at Springfield where he served as a director of the Union Stock Yards Company for many years. In 1935, he became a buyer for the Independent Packing Co. of St. Louis, a subsidiary if Swift & Co. and maintained an office and buying staff at the Union Stock Yards until his death. Joe M. Shipman, a former president of the Union Stock Yards Co. and a long-time acquaintenance and business associate of Mr. Kissee, had the following to say regarding his death: "Raymond Kissee was an outstanding man in his field, and his long and successful association with the operation of the Union Stock Yards was in large measure responsible for its rapid growth during the past few years. He was a stockholder in the Union Yards and served as a director for several years. He was considered by all commission men and patrons of the years as one of the outstanding buyers of all kinds of livestock. He had a well organized force of men working with him, buying thousands of cattle, calves, sheep and hogs for the Independent Packing Co. and they are carrying on under the capable direction of Joe Smith who had been Raymond's right hand man for the past 20 years." Funeral services here Sunday were attened by an estimated more than a thousand persons, Pallbearers were representatives of six livestock commission firms at the Union Stock Yards, all of whom had been longtime business associates of Mr. Kissee, They included Roy Dennis, Lawrence rush, Jack Wiles, Francis Jordan, Lee McLean and Carl Gates.
