He was a farmer and a cattleman and had taught vocational agriculture for 27 years, 21 of those years in Nixa. He as a member of First Baptist Church, Nixa, he served as deacon and had taught the Men's Adult Bible Class for several years. He had served on the executive board of the Missouri Baptist Convention. He was a graduate of Ozark High School and the University of Missouri, Columbia, was past president of the Missouri Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association, and had served as vice president of the National Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association. He had also served recently as a board member of Christian County Soil and Water Conversation and was past president of the Missouri Charolais Association. He had been superintendent of the Swine Division of the Ozark Empire Fair for several years. Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Jerry, Wichita, Kans. And Kenny, Nixa; three daughters, Linda Wallace, Shelbina, Mo., Betty Fisher, Highlandville, and Carol Vandekerkhove, Battlefield; 9 grandchildren; a brother, James, Ontario, Calif.; and a sister Ilene Workman, Springfield. Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Nixa, with the Revs. Kenneth P. Bandy and Richard Eakins officiating. Burial was in Selmore Cemetery near Ozark, under the direction of Harris Funeral Home, Nixa. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Nixa.
