Ray Dean Hanks, 75, of Springfield, was born on July 14, 1930, in Newburg, Mo., the son of Floyd J. and Mary M. (Melton) Hanks and passed away at his home on Sunday, August 28, 2005. On November 12, 1950, Ray was united in marriage with Mary Fieldson and to this union one daughter was born. Ray served his country during the Korean War and was honorably discharged on December 18, 1951. For many years, Ray owned Hank's Brothers DX and Gulf Service Stations. During his free time, he loved hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and kidding. Ray was a member of the Masonic Lodge, United #5, and a member of the Elks Lodge B.P.O.E., 409. He followed the Baptist faith. Survivors include his daughter, Dana Hanks of Springfield; two sisters, Florine Thompson of El Reno, Okla., and Kathlene McCord of Springfield; a very special friend, Mary Hanks of Springfield; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Dorrel Hanks; a niece, Mary Angela Hanks; and a nephew, Gary Caughron. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2005, in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive visitors from 7 to 8 p.m. tonight at Thieme-Shadel-Hicks Funeral Service at Rivermonte.
