Hanks, age 86, of Springfield, passed away in his home, Monday, Nov. 1, 2004. He was born March 8, 1918, in the Selmore community, the son of Floyd J. and Mary (Melton) Hanks. On April 6, 1940, he and June Lee Maples were united in marriage. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Dorrel and June were almost inseparable during their sixty-one years of marriage before her death in 2001. Their daughter, Angela was born with Cerebral Palsy. Dorrel and June were instrumental in starting United Cerebral Palsy of Central Missouri, with Dorrel serving as the first president of the organization, and eventually serving as vice-president of the National Cerebral Palsy organization. Dorrel was a member of United #5 Masonic Lodge in Springfield, and Abou Ben Adhem Temple. He was also a member of Elk Lodge #409. During his career as a Realtor, Mr. Hanks was known as the Father of Springfield Realtors. He served as president of the Springfield Board of Realtors and president of the Springfield Multilist Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Ozark. Mr. Hanks was known to never have a problem he could not work out. He never met a person he did not like, and most wanted to "be good to people and be a good quail shot". Survivors include his son, Dorrel Thomas Hanks Jr. of Waco, Texas, and his wife Carole and children Kirsten and Thomas; his son, Chris Julian Hanks of Springfield, and his children Kristy, Shannon, Chad, and Shane; and his son Kevin Sean Hanks of Rogersville, and his wife Kathy and children Michael, Krystle, and Cassidy; a brother, Ray Dean and Mary Helen Hanks, Springfield; two sisters, Florene Thompson and Kathleen McCord; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; his daughter, Angela; a brother, Bill G. Hanks; a sister-in-law, Betty Hanks; and a nephew, Gary Caughron. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at First Baptist Church of Ozark. Burial will follow in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, Springfield, with military honors. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Ozark, or the Developmental Center of the Ozarks. MAPLES, was born on 28 August 1919. She died on 11 October 2001 at the age of 82 in MO. Guy Lawyer officiating. Burial was in Rivermonte Cemetery. Miss Hanks died at 4 p.m. Sunday in Mercy Villa after a long illness. She was a lifelong resident of Springfield. Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dorrel T. Hanks, of the home; three brothers, Chris and Kevin, both of Springfield, and Tom, St. Paul, Minn.; her maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Bruce C. Maples, Ozark; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Floyd J. Hanks, Ozark. She was buried on 31 August 1971 in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens, Springfield, MO.
