CHENOWETH and Elizabeth FOSTER, was born on 17 July 1808 in Franklin Co., OH.243,758,760 He died on 3 May 1886 at the age of 77 in Darke Co., OH.243 He was buried in May 1886 in Nashville Cemetery, Washington Twp., Darke Co., OH.199 Thomas was a Farmer and Brick Mason in Franklin Co., OH.760 Thomas was born in Pleasant Township, Franklin Co., OH where his parents John C. Chenoweth and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Foster had married. When he was about 10 years old, his family moved west to Darke Co., OH. At the age of 23 in neighboring Preble County, Joseph married the 21-year-old Christina Thomas, a daughter of John Thomas, Sr. and Catharine Albright. The Thomas family had come from North Carolina to Tennessee and then Ohio. Thomas and Christina settled in Darke County where they would remain for the rest of their lives. They had 10 children, all born there. Eight of these would marry, 7 of them in Darke County. Three sons would fight for the North in the Civil War, all serving in the same regiment. Thomas was a farmer, owning 160 acres, but also developed skill as a brick mason, a trade he passed down to his sons. He was elected Justice of the Peace in Darke County (1852) and served in that capacity for 27 years. The family is enumerated in the 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, and 1880 Censuses of Darke County. Thomas died in Darke Co. at the age of 77, just two weeks after his wife, Christina. Joseph is buried in the Nashville cemetery, about 5 files west of Greenville in Darke Co., OH.
