George HUNT55 was born on 17 August 1775 in Rowan Co., NC.50 He signed a will on 16 July 1839 in LaPorte Co., IN.55 He died on 12 October 1842 in Wills Twp., LaPorte Co., IN.50 George was buried in 1842 in Baptist Cemetery, Wills Twp., LaPorte Co., IN.50 George Hunt was a man of some distinction in the history of Indiana. He was commissioned Lt. Col. in a rifle company in 1809, and commissioned Brigadier General of the 13th Brigade on 20 Dec 1820. On 11 Jan 1820 he was one of the men appointed by the legislature of Indiana to select and locate a new capital for the state. On 3 Sep 1814 he was commissioned clerk of the Circuit Court for the then Territory of Indiana and continued so when it became a state in 1814. In 1835 George Hunt moved his family from Wayne Co., IN to St. Joseph Co., and settled two miles south of South Bend, IN.
