57. Adam CLAPP Sr. was born on 10 December 1754 in Orange Co., NC.52 He served in the military NC Regt in 1776 in Revolutionary War.52 He was baptized on 26 May 1776 in Guilford Co., NC. baptized in the Brick Church. Adam died on 15 August 1841 at the age of 86 in Alexander Co., IL.52 He was buried in August 1841 in St. John's Cemetery, Union Co., IL.52 There is a large DAR marker in the cemetery for Adam but he may not actually be buried there. Adam Clapp, Sr. filed a pension claim for service in the Am. Rev. War, He was confirmed at Brick Church, Guilford Co., NC by Rev. Samuel Suther, 26 May 1776. By 1785 Adam had moved to Sumner Co., TN where he is listed with Captain Young's Company. He served as a juror in Robertson Co., TN during the August term of 1804. In 1807, "The settler who made a permanent footing in Union Co., IL, was Adam Clapp, often called Old Clapp." from the book Pioneer Sketches. Adam and his son were in Union Co., IL in the 1818 IL census. They were both still there in 1820 along with William Clapp. Pension claim # s.30937. Pension was approved and inscribed on Roll of Illinois, at rate of $26.66 per annum. Commenced March 4, 1831. Certificate of Pension issued April 23, 1833. Illinois Agency: No. 7939. Act of June 7, 1832. Adam lived for about 5 years after the close of the Revolutionary War in Guilford Co., NC, when he removed to TN. where he resided approx. 22 years. He volunteered in the fall of 1776 or 1777, while a resident of Guilford Co., NC. in Capt. Henry Whitesell's Company, Col. Alexander Martin's Regiment. Served 8 months as a Private. Randolph Co., IL became his home by 1810 and is shown serving jury duty, road duty and twice for illegal sale of whiskey. In 1831 he removed to Alexander Co., IL where he received his pension.

1800- Adam Clapp appears on a buyers list at an estate sale for Adam Lawrence in Henderson Co., KY

1804- Robertson Co.,TN Court Minutes:
Constable Abraham Young Jr. appointed; gave bond in sum of 500$ with John Young and Adam Clapp as his securities. Adam Clapp appointed to and served on jury, August Term.

1807- Union Co., IL
The Clapps, Worthingtons and Lawrences were in residence in southern Illinois Territory. Benjamin and Joseph Lawrence, brother of Ruth, went on a hunting and trapping expedition in Illinois. They were quite taken with the Mill Creek area of Union Co., IL and one of them, the story goes, returned to Sumner Co., to bring Adam Clapp and family down the Cumberland, Ohio and Mississippi Rivers to Union Co. The book "Pioneer Sketches" gives a contrasting date when it say, "The first settler who made a permanent footing in the county was Adam Clapp, often called Old Clapp. He came from NC in 1806." Reported to Congress for permission to Reside in IL.(Squatters Rights).... Clap, Adam #25 Sept. 11, 1807 Situate on the waters of Cash Creek. Bounded on the east by the residence of Samuel Worthington. Range 1 west, township section 34 Ne NW Qutrs., 320 acres. Permission granted.

1817- He served on the first Grand Jury in the County. He is often found in the court records for jury duty, road duty, and twice for illegal sales of whiskey... Oct. 10, 1817 he purchased 160 acres from Jonathan and Jan Husky located in the SW quarter sec. Township 13, range 1 west.
