The 1860's era proved to be a difficult time for the family. North and South Armies both demanded food and supplies from the local people. The Clapp family had winter food supplies and livestock taken. Oliver's family removed the wheels from the wagon and hid them in a pond to prevent raiders from taking it. The following spring Oliver made a crop using one old cow and a small pony to pull the plow. Although he never fought in the Civil War, Oliver's sympathies were with the South. Because of this, he was placed in the stockade for a short time. Oliver paid taxes in 1871 with the name Oliver Clapp. When the taxes were paid in 1872 he was Oliver Page. In a petition to the circuit court of Christian County in September 1870, Oliver Clapp, Mariah Clapp and each of their children, Oliver's brother David Riley Clapp and his family asked that their name be changed from Clapp to Page.
Oliver Page remained a faithful son to his mother Delila Clapp. In her final illness, Oliver moved her to his home where she was cared for until her death. The Page family believes that land for the Selmore Cemetery was donated by Oliver Page. His daughter Martha Bodenhammer was the first one buried at the cemetery.
