He was buried in April 1895 in Scipio Cemetery, Jennings Co., IN. George was born some 8 years after his parents came to Jennings Co., IN. Foust and his brother Joel would go into the milling business together when Foust was in his mid-20's. Later, the two established a general store on Scipio's main highway. During the Civil War the Amick brothers were meat processors, buying hogs locally and packing then in barrels and shipping them by rail to Madison, whence they went by steamboat to the soldiers. With the profits, Foust helped organize the state bank in North Vernon. He was a director of the bank as was his son, John, later. After a 20 year partnership, Foust bought out Joel's interest in the store and operated it successfully and eventually in partnership with John. The new name "G. F. Amick & Son" was entered at the post office in 1890. A Republican, Foust was twice postmaster of Scipio during GOP presidential administrations. Only 2 of his 12 brothers and sisters survived him. His obituaries were full of praise. "He was a good financier," one said, "by reason of which he was one among the largest landowners of the county, and one of the largest taxpayers. He was one of Jennings County's best known and most influential citizens, always firm in his opinions of right and wrong, yet submissive of correction."
