In about 1748 Phillip and Veronica moved to NC along with two of Veronica's brothers. Phillip may have changed his name to "Charles Hunter" which is the english translation for "Carl Jaeger":
"Three families arrived in Old Orange from Pennsylvania in 1748. They were on their way to the forks of the Yadkin. They had stopped because the next day was the Sabbath and they were Sabbath-keeping people. Two of the families were George Valentine Clapp and wife; and his brother John Ludwig Clapp and wife. The other family was Phillip Carl "Hunter" and his wife who was the sister of George Valentine and John Ludwig. .. The two Clapp brothers stayed and founded Der Klapp Kirche which later became known as The Brick church. Mr. Hunter continued on to the Yadkin and whether or not he made it is not known."

A Charles Hunter ended up with several hundred acres on Dutchman's Creek. His wife at this time is Mary, dau. of Michael Beam, and they had several children.
He signed documents in NC, "KI" (meaning Karl Jager or Iager) in deed books 6 & 7. There is a 16 Aug 1770 Rowan Co., NC record for Charles Hunter, Deceased, with administrators Mary and Jacob Hunter and witnesses William Roberts and James Whitaker.
